چکیده
Ketamine is one of the old anaesthetic agents which has regained popularity in analgesia, trauma, emergency medicine, neurology and psychiatry. Recently several cases were reported on ketamine induced seizures otherwise healthy children despite its treatment refractory status epilepticus. We present an eight-year-old prematurely born boy who developed two episodes generalized tonic clonic following administration for a short ophthalmic procedure. This case our comprehensive narrative review literature pro- anti-epileptic effects show that debate continues gaps mechanism action, etiology risk factors ketamine’s epileptic activity remains. Due to recent increase use further evaluation warranted ensure safe effective ketamine.

Ketamine and e.e.g. seizure waves: interaction with anti-epileptic drugs.
When unrestrained cats were with ketamine 2-6 mg kg-1 i.v., anaesthesia was associated with seizure waves induced in the cortical e.e.g. After cats were pretreated with trimethadione 500 mg kg-1 i.p., ketamine did not induce seizure waves. Pretreatment with diphenylhydantoin 25 or 100 mg kg-1 i.p. slightly enhanced seizure waves following ketamine. In both situations the anaesthetic effect of k...

Is it time to replace epileptic spikes with fast ripples? In well over a century of performing epilepsy surgery, only 60%–65% of patients are, on average, seizure-free postoperatively. 1 Despite multiple advances in neuroimaging and electrophysiologic techniques for localizing the epileptogenic zone and determining its boundaries, defining the exact amount of neuronal tissue required to resect ...

Epilepsy represents the most common serious neurological disorder, with a prevalence of 0.4 - 1%. Approximately 30% of patients are resistant to currently available drugs. New anti-epileptic drugs are needed to treat refractory epilepsy, improve upon current therapies, improve the prognosis of epilepsy and to prevent the epileptogenic process. Designing compounds with specific physiological tar...
